Handing your child to someone who was a stranger last week is one of the hardest things working parents do. The search usually starts at 11 pm with "babysitter near me", three agency websites, and a WhatsApp forward from a colleague that says "very good didi, call her". None of that tells you what you actually need to know.
This guide covers the rates, the checks and the part most parents skip: a proper trial week.
How much does a nanny cost in Gurgaon and Noida?
Expect ₹15,000–30,000 a month for a full-time live-out nanny, and ₹20,000–35,000 for a live-in, with premium Gurgaon going higher. Rates depend on hours, experience with infants, languages, and whether cooking for the child is included.

Agency or referral: which is safer?
A referral from a family you trust is usually the best start. An agency is useful when you need speed or a replacement guarantee.

How do you verify a nanny properly?
ID, two references, police verification, and a conversation with the last family she worked for. Don't skip any of the four.
- Government ID such as Aadhaar. Keep a copy.
- References from two families, including at least one with a child of a similar age. Ask specific questions: why she left, how she handled a sick day, whether she was punctual.
- Police verification before she starts. In Gurgaon, domestic help verification is available online through Haryana Police's Harsamay and Saral portals, as listed on the Haryana Home Department's police e-services page. In Noida and Greater Noida, the UP Police UPCOP app has a tenant and servant verification option. In Delhi, use the Delhi Police citizen services.
- A home-address check, especially for live-in help.

What should the trial week look like?
Paid, supervised, and specific. A trial week is where you find out what an interview never shows. Most parents skip it because they're desperate to get back to work. Don't.
Day 1–2: You or a family member stay home. Show her the routine: feeds, naps, bath, what the child eats, what's off-limits.
Day 3–4: Step out for a few hours. Come back unannounced once.
Day 5: Leave her alone for most of a working day. Check in by phone, not constantly.
Day 6–7: Talk. What worked, what didn't, what she needs from you.
Watch the small things. Does she get down on the floor to play, or sit on her phone? Does the child reach for her by day four? Is she honest when something goes wrong, like a spilled bottle or a small fall? Honesty about small things predicts honesty about big ones.
What should you agree in writing?
Salary, hours, weekly off, leave, duties and notice period, all on one page. A short written note avoids nearly every later argument.
- Daily hours and what counts as overtime
- Weekly off and how many paid leaves a month
- Exactly which duties are included (child's food, child's laundry) and which aren't (whole-house cleaning)
- Rules on phones, visitors and outings with the child
- Notice period on both sides
- Whether you'll use a CCTV camera at home; tell her upfront. Hidden cameras destroy trust when discovered.
Stick a list of emergency numbers on the fridge: yours, your partner's, the paediatrician, the nearest hospital, a trusted neighbour, and 112.
Nanny, creche or daycare?
A nanny gives one-on-one care at home; a daycare gives structure and other children. Many families use a nanny for babies under two and switch to a daycare or preschool with half-day nanny support after that. Visit two local daycares before deciding. The one within walking distance usually beats the fancier one 20 minutes away. Our guide on how to meet your neighbours is useful here: the parents in your building are the best daycare reviewers you'll find.
What if you only need a babysitter near me for a few hours?
Occasional babysitting works best with someone already vetted by families around you. Date nights, a sudden office trip, a sick day when the regular nanny is on leave: these are exactly the moments people type "babysitter near me" at the last minute and end up calling a stranger.
A better plan is to build a small backup list in advance. Two or three names recommended by neighbours, each met once with your child present, with their rates agreed ahead of time. Some families on the same floor even share one trusted evening babysitter between them. That kind of arrangement only happens when neighbours know each other. As we argued in your building has 200 families, the help you need is usually closer than you think.
Why the best nannies are found through neighbours
Because the best ones already work in your building or the next one. Many nannies prefer families near where they already work or live, and the most trusted names get passed from one family to another as children grow up and start school.
A friend of a friend whose child just started full-day school may have a wonderful nanny looking for a new family. You'd never find her on an agency list. Parents in our guide to finding home tutors in Gurgaon described the same thing: the best people come recommended by parents nearby. It's the same reason the "plumber near me" problem isn't really a search problem, it's a trust problem.
On PadosXO, a Requirement post reaches verified parents in your area, and nannies and service providers can be found through the For Services side of the app. You can read how neighbours are verified on the trust and verification page.
Looking for a nanny your neighbours already trust? Ask them.
Post a Requirement like "Looking for a full-time nanny for a 1-year-old, 9 am to 7 pm, Sector 50 or nearby" and hear from verified parents around you, including families whose kids just outgrew their nanny.

The short version
Know the going rate, verify everything yourself, and never skip the trial week. The nanny who's right for your family is the one your child is happy with on day seven, not the one with the best CV on day one.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a nanny cost in Gurgaon?
A full-time live-out nanny in Gurgaon typically costs about ₹18,000–30,000 a month, and a 24-hour live-in nanny about ₹22,000–35,000 or more, depending on experience and duties.
What is the babysitter cost in Noida?
In Noida, a full-time babysitter working 8–12 hours usually costs around ₹15,000–25,000 a month, and a 24-hour live-in babysitter around ₹20,000–35,000.
How do I verify a nanny in Delhi NCR?
Check government ID, speak to at least two previous employers, complete police verification (Harsamay in Haryana, UPCOP in UP, Delhi Police services in Delhi) and confirm her home address.
Is it better to hire a nanny through an agency or a referral?
A referral from a trusted family is often the safest and has no placement fee. Agencies are faster and may offer replacements but charge fees, and you should still do your own checks.
Should I do a trial period with a new nanny?
Yes. A paid, supervised one-week trial lets you see how she handles the real routine and how your child responds before you commit.
What should be included in a nanny's agreement?
Salary, working hours, weekly off, paid leave, exact duties, rules on phones and visitors, CCTV disclosure and the notice period on both sides.
Is a live-in or live-out nanny better?
Live-in nannies suit families with newborns, night needs or irregular hours; live-out nannies suit most working parents with fixed office hours.
